Discover the delights of the Bergisches Land

The varied landscape in the Bergisches Land Nature Park is perfect for exploring by car, but equally so by motorbike or camper van. The routes we have put together follow scenic roads. Fantastic panoramic views and picturesque mountain villages with timber-framed houses are just waiting to be discovered.

You can choose whether you would like to focus your trip on discovering traditional timber-framed houses in the mountains, visit the special "Bonten Kerken" churches with their ceiling paintings or walk around the numerous beautifully scenic dams. Or are you particularly captivated by the view of the Rhine plain and Cologne Cathedral? Perhaps you are more interested in the history of old castles and palaces? Be sure to plan enough breaks to appreciate the beautiful scenery and take in the many sights at your leisure!

And if you don't just want to get around by car, the excellent hiking and cycling trails offer a wide variety of ways to explore and experience the mountainous cultural landscape of the Nature Park in the fresh air. We highly recommend the two official long-distance hiking trails, the Bergischer Weg and the Bergischer Panoramasteig, and the 24 named trails (Bergische Streifzüge), which are day-long or half-day tours on specific topics such as tradition and history, nature or technology. For cyclists, a tour along the Bergisches Panoramic Cycle Route or the Balkan Route is an unforgettable experience. Both trails follow disused railway lines for the most part and therefore have hardly any gradients.

If you are going to be on the road in the Bergisches Land for several days, you can stay overnight in cosy hotels or guesthouses and continue your tour the next day feeling well rested. If you will be exploring the Bergisches Land by motorhome, you will find numerous motorhome parks and fully equipped campsites where you can spend a relaxed night.
