Majestätisch thront Schloss Homburg über dem Homburger Ländchen in Mitten von Wald und Wiesen.
Today, the castle, which was first mentioned in 1276 but probably originally dates from much earlier than that, is above all an ideal location for “culture in dialogue”. As a modern, cultural history exhibition venue, in addition to the permanent exhibition, Museum and Forum Schloss Homburg also presents a wide range of changing special exhibitions that take place in the new forum.
The themes of the permanent exhibition, meanwhile, range from craft exhibitions to the presentation of civic living environments, historical working methods and the feudal history of the state and reigns of power of the region to Oberbergisch flora and fauna.
But the castle is much more than a excursion destination and exhibition venue. It offers a superb setting for cultural events such as concerts, readings and film screenings, as well as weddings, celebrations or conferences in the new orangery and the garden room as well as the adjoining Baroque garden. The ensemble also includes the Red House (former tithe barn), the Forester’s House and the translocated buildings of the historical mill and bakery.
